Artisan Residencies & Cultural Exchange

The Artisan Residency Program

Preserving Folk Artistry & Community Stewardship

The Husser Legacy House Artisan Residency is designed to open our studio doors to regional craftspeople, folk artists, weavers, and creators. By providing space, materials, and support, the residency serves as a sanctuary for cultural preservation and creative exchange.

Reclaiming the Textile Narrative

Historically, the foundational creators of textile arts and land stewardship, particularly within the African American community, were excluded from the narrative of high luxury. Our residency program actively dismantles this gatekeeping by placing local creators back at the center of the creative and economic process.

The Final Dye Cycle: Watercolor & Fine Art

At the end of our fabric and paper production runs, the final, diluted wash of our natural dye vats is dedicated to the residency artists.

Natural Watercolors: The soft, translucent pigments are used by resident artists to produce original watercolor paintings, sketchbook studies, and limited art prints.

Multi-Disciplinary Crafting: Resident artisans use remaining raw fibers, yarns, and scraps for traditional basket weaving, rug making, and specialty handcrafts.

Cultural Impact & Legacy

Each seasonal residency culminates in an intimate showcase, celebrating the intersection of local land, fine art, and community heritage. The works produced during these residencies stand as living proof that luxury, stewardship, and artistic freedom can exist in complete harmony.
